Transitions

Creation date 2019

The cycle consists of paintings made in acrylic technique on a board, image sizes 100 x 100 cm.

With her works, Valeriia Ianichek encourages viewers to contemplate and strives to evoke a sense of peace and harmony in them. Such was the idea behind, for example, “Atolls”. By multiplying one gesture across all of the paintings-objects, the Artist made an effort to meditate and calm down before showing them to the viewers.

Valeriia’s actions can be described as a prayer attempt to give, through her art and to the best of her abilities, a specific antidote to aggression, stress, nervousness, dissatisfaction, and solicitation that are experienced by a modern inhabitant of Western European civilization.

Valeriia often repeats that her paintings are “silent”. In this sense, you can build some kind of a parallel between her art and the icons with their characters who have high foreheads, long fingers, large eyes and closed mouth. In “Transitions”, the artist encourages viewers not only to spiritually commune with her art, but also to physically interact with it (see: Legend). It encourages you to make albeit a momentary choice between seriousness of adulthood and vulnerability of the desire for listening to your inner voices.
